The South Australian Beef Cattle Industry will benefit from the Coalition’s Building Better Regions Fund with $30,000 from the federal fund being awarded to Livestock SA for the development of a South Australian Beef Cattle Industry Blueprint.

Member for Barker said the project will be modelled on the successful SA Sheep Industry Blueprint which was launched by Livestock SA in 2016.

“Our free trade agreements into growing Asian markets and their increasing demand for the high quality agricultural products our region has to offer is one of the driving forces behind latest forecasts that Australia’s agricultural production will surpass $60 billion in 2016-17. Beef is a big part of this,” Mr Pasin said.

“The Beef Cattle Industry employs more than 10,000 people and generates more than $600 million in farm gate revenue.

“There is an opportunity to coordinate efforts to strategically grow the beef cattle industry value and employment in a strategic and coordinated fashion.

“Importantly, the plan will have clear actions to be implemented with buy-in from a wide range of stakeholders including producers, feedlotters, processers, retailers, exporters and researchers. The development of the plan will see Livestock SA include small group consultation workshops and direct consultation with key stakeholders,” Mr Pasin said.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment Stream was investing $6.9 million in community projects throughout regional Australia.

“I aim to help build the kinds of regional communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to. This project helps to do that,” The Minister said.

The Building Better Regions Fund is investing $500 million to foster economic growth in rural, regional, and remote communities.
