Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has today welcomed Treasurer Scott Morrison to the Murraylands following an invitation to come and speak with the local Murraylands Food Alliance about the potential for growth in the region.

“I invited the Treasurer to come to the region to show him first hand the industry here and just how much the region has to offer,” Mr Pasin said.

“As we move from the mining boom to the dining boom, the region is in prime position to take advantage of the opportunities that come along with that transition. The Murraylands Food Alliance is a brilliant example of industry coming together to maximise the opportunities that exist and face the challenges that may present themselves along the way,” Mr Pasin said.

CEO of RDA Murraylands and Riverland Jo Podoliak and local Mayor Brenton Lewis were also on hand to speak about the work that has been done in identifying the potential to unlock jobs in the region and current barriers that may stand in the way.

The meeting was held at the Costa Mushrooms at Monarto where the Treasurer and Mr Pasin were given a tour of the facility before sitting down to discuss the food industry in the Murraylands in more detail.

“I’m incredibly impressed with the pro-active approach this group is taking to support each other reach their full potential,” Mr Morrison said.

“I heard from some very passionate food producers in the Murraylands today and this sort of dedication and co-operation gives me great confidence about the viability and potential for growth of industry in the region. The food industry is set for continued growth globally over the next few decades and that puts this region in a fantastic position.

“With the right policy settings and support from Government to unlock potential I look forward to seeing what this region can do,” Mr Morrison said.
