Member for Barker Tony Pasin hosted the Prime Minister in Mount Gambier yesterday to visit the new headspace facility that will open in the next few weeks.

The headspace programme was established by the former Coalition Government in 2006 and Member for Barker Tony Pasin was key in the establishment of headspace in Mount Gambier in 2014.

“It’s fantastic that headspace Mount Gambier is now going to move into new purpose built premises in the next few weeks. It was great for the Prime Minister to see this and talk to the Headspace team about the vital work that headspace does for our youth in Mount Gambier,” said Mr Pasin.

This visit comes on the back of the Federal Budget which included approximately $173.8 million over four years to invest in new mental health and suicide prevention initiatives in the Health and Veterans’ Affairs portfolios.

“The 2017-18 Budget has put a strong focus on mental health and preventive health – key elements of our Long-Term National Health Plan,” Mr Pasin said.

While the Prime Minister was in Mount Gambier he also met with local school captains, spent time speaking with local business leaders before chatting with locals at Jens Hotel.

Although it was a brief visit to Mount Gambier the Prime Minister has promised to return to the Barker electorate and spend more time in regional South Australia.
