The Morrison Government’s 2019-20 Budget delivers the first surplus in more than a decade, creates more jobs, lowers taxes and guarantees essential services like schools, hospitals and roads.

Our Budget will create a stronger and more secure Australia by funding important local investments and boosting essential services.

“Our plan balances the books to ensure we can pay for what we promise, it creates more local jobs by backing our businesses, lowers taxes so more families keep more of what they earn and guarantees critical local services,” Mr Pasin said.

Under our plan families will benefit from:

  • New investments in local infrastructure to grow our economy and create more opportunity
  • Safer local roads through our $2.2 billion Road Safety Package, targeting black spots and council road improvements.
  • Better connected communities through an additional $160 million investment in Mobile Black Spot Program.
  • Listing of critical medicines on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme such as breast cancer and rare skin cancer fighting drugs, saving patients up to $150,000.
  • Support for older Australians, with 20,000 new home care packages and a reduction in red tape for 180,000 people a year in need of financial assistance with aged care services.
  • Immediate tax relief of up to $1,080 for low and middle income earners and up to $2,160 for a dual income couple to ease cost of living pressures
  • Record funding for schools will ensure teachers have the support they need to prepare students for the future. It also includes $30 million for the Local School Community Fund that will allow communities to fund projects such as upgrades to libraries, classrooms and play equipment.

Specifically for Barker key budget measures include:

  • $6.4 million to improve access for heavy vehicles in Naracoorte through two Smith St roundabouts to increase efficiency, productivity and improve the supply chain making the route more efficient.
  • $200 million investment into Princes Highway for road widening, overtaking lanes and duplication along key sections in SA.
  • $4.8 million roundabout at Kroemer’s Crossing in the Barossa.

“I am proud to have fought for and delivered funding for the Mount Gambier Community and Recreation Hub, Sturt Reserve in Murray Bridge, Childcare facilities in the Mallee, infrastructure for sporting facilities

across the Riverland and aged care facilities in the Barossa. These new investments will help make our community an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Pasin said.

Residents of Barker will also secure better health services, including an investment of $32 million so breast cancer patients have life-saving scans covered under Medicare, saving patients up to $1,500 per scan.

“The Morrison Government understands that having strong regions creates a strong Australia and that is why we are continuing our record investment in supporting regional communities like the ones in Barker,” Mr Pasin said.

The Treasurer, the Hon Josh Frydenberg said, “This Budget will build a stronger economy and secure a better future for all Australians. It will ease the cost of living pressures, fund infrastructure to unlock the potential of our regions and guarantee funding for essential services including hospitals, schools, drugs on the PBS, disability support,”

The Morrison Government’s 2019-20 Budget builds a stronger local community and secures a better future for all families.

“Under the Morrison Government, the economy will always be stronger, allowing you and your family to get ahead,” Mr Pasin said.
