The Waikerie Men’s Shed has been awarded a grant of $5000 from the Morrison Government for a new pergola under round 18 of the Government’s National Shed Development Programme.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin caught up with Members of the Waikerie Men’s Shed today and congratulated the organisation on its successful application for the grant.

“Men are often the last ones to make their health and wellbeing a priority. It’s imperative that we do what we can to ensure they get the assistance they need and deserve.

“The Waikerie Men’s shed offers significant support to local men who need a bit of space and some friendly, easy-going company,” Mr Pasin said.

“Our Government recognises these benefits and is investing a total of $5.1 million over three years to the national men’s sheds movement.”

Waikerie Men’s Shed will use its government grant to install a new pergola and paving.

“As well as bringing men together to work on meaningful projects, one of the great successes of Men’s Sheds is that they provide a forum for men to talk about health issues and encourage men to take action on their health issues,” Mr Pasin said.

Heath Minister Greg Hunt said feeling part of a social group is important to our emotional and mental health.

“Every day Men’s Sheds across Australia and across the Riverland provide men with an opportunity for companionship and support within their community,” Minister Hunt said.

The Men’s Shed grants programme provides funding for health improvement activities, the purchase of tools and equipment, community projects and training, and for building maintenance and development.
