Job seekers and those looking to transfer their skills into a new career in Barker will be encouraged to consider care and support work in a new Australian Government campaign.

The A Life Changing Life campaign captures real-life relationships between workers and the people they support to highlight the unique experiences and employment opportunities available in the sector.

The care and support sector, which includes aged care, disability and veterans’ support, is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Australia.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said the care and support sector can provide a variety of job and career opportunities in Barker.

“With the growth of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and our ageing population, the care and support sector represents one of the fastest growing job opportunities in Australia right now,” said Mr Pasin.

Minister for the NDIS Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said a national care and support workforce campaign was a key initiative of the NDIS National Workforce Plan 2021-2025, launched in June.

“We have many outstanding people already working in the care and support sector, and it continues to grow to meet demand,” Minister Reynolds said.

“The NDIS alone will need an additional 83,000 workers in the coming years as the scheme matures.”

Minister for Health and Aged Care Greg Hunt said A Life Changing Life will help the Australian Government deliver upon its generational $17.7 billion aged care reform package and ensure safer, quality care for senior Australians.

“By 2050, Australia will need the services of around one million aged care workers. This campaign will help to grow a strong and sustainable workforce that supports senior Australians as they age,” Minister Hunt said.

Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care Services Richard Colbeck said the government is focused on supporting the aged care workforce through increased specialist training, financial support and mentorship.

“We want to attract and retain skilled, compassionate and professional aged care workers, and campaigns like this one will help drive those improvements,” Minister Colbeck said.

A Life Changing Life features a wide range of workers across aged care, disability and veterans’ support, and the people they work with.

“Whether you’re looking for steady, casual work, want to learn and grow in a role, and would like flexible work that’s also interesting and meaningful – the care and support sector may have what you’re looking for,” said Mr Pasin.
