APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR LOCAL DRUG ACTION TEAM PROGRAM

The Australian Government and Alcohol and Drug Foundation are encouraging organisations that are passionate about building resilient and healthy neighbourhoods to apply to join the Local Drug Action Team Program.

The Local Drug Action Team Program is part of the Australian Government’s investment of more than $450 million under the National Ice Action Strategy.

Applications to join this national prevention program officially open on February 1 and close on March 5.

Member of Barker, Tony Pasin said the LDAT Program supports organisations to build local partnerships and develop evidence-based activities to prevent alcohol and other drugs related harms where it matters the most – at the grassroots, community level. These activities boost quality education, positive parenting and establishing clear pathways from education to work, which reduce alcohol and other drug related harms.

“The LDAT partnerships include local councils, service providers, schools, police, young people, Indigenous and primary health services and other non-government organisations.” Mr Pasin said.

“There are more than 230 active Local Drug Action Teams having an impact around Australia. Currently in Barker we have LDAT’s in Murray Bridge, Barossa and Mount Gambier. I encourage organisations in other Barker communities to apply to be one of the additional 40 LDATs which will be established through this new application round. “Mr Pasin said.

Successful Local Drug Action Teams are expected to be announced in April 2021. They will receive an initial $10,000 and will be supported by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation to develop and a tailored Community Action Plan addressing alcohol and other drug issues in their community, with opportunities to apply for further funding to deliver their activities.
