South Eastern Freeway motorists have received a road safety boost with Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP announcing the Morrison Government is investing $340,000 to improve a 3kms section of the South Eastern Freeway at Monarto South, under the 2019-20 Black Spot Program.
The local Federal Member joined State Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, the Hon Stephan Knoll MP to inspect the road this week.
Tony Pasin said the road will be made safer thanks to the Government’s investment.
“This section of the South Eastern Freeway will be made safer with wire rope and shoulder sealing,” Mr Pasin said.
“By specifically targeting road locations with a history of crashes, the Black Spot Program reduces crashes causing injury and death at those sites by around 30 per cent.
“As chair of the state’s Black Spot Consultative Panel, I’m working hard to ensure funding is allocated to the most dangerous parts of the South Australian road network,” Mr Pasin said.
Under the National Road Safety Strategy 2011–2020, the Australian, state and territory governments have committed to reducing the numbers of deaths and serious injuries recorded on the nation’s roads by at least 30 per cent by 2020.
“I am proud to be part of a Government that is committed to play its part in getting Australians get home safely from every journey on our roads,” Mr Pasin said.
“Our Government has announced an additional $1.1 billion in funding for local governments under the Roads to Recovery program, as well as an extra $550 million for the successful Black Spot Program.
“We will deliver a further $571.1 million to improve the safety and efficiency of heavy vehicle operations through the Bridges Renewal Program, Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiatives (HVSI).
“Our Government is investing in our local region roads. We are working to ensure regional Australia can thrive and prosper.”

“A stronger economy is the key to delivering better services,” Mr Pasin said.
