  • Councils can spend their grants according to local priorities
  • More than $2.4 billion is being provided to 546 councils around Australia this financial year
  • Additional $20 million for South Australian local roads

The Coalition Government has this week made the first quarterly payment of $10,557,363 to local councils in Barker under the 2018-19 Financial Assistance Grant Program.

Councils in South Australia will also benefit from an additional $20 million provided under the Supplementary Local Road funding program.

Federal Member for Barker said local councils will receive a total of $50,202,689 this financial year including $19,915,943 for Limestone Coast Councils* to support the local community.

“This funding can be used to improve local road infrastructure and support other important local projects,” Mr Pasin said.

Mr Pasin said the program was a prime example of the Coalition Government’s commitment to supporting the efforts of local government to deliver the services and facilities their communities need.

“A large portion of this funding is tied to improve local road. The remaining portion is untied. Councils are free to spend this untied funding according to local priorities, including for infrastructure and services their community need.

“I am looking forward to seeing our local councils target local priorities with this funding, along with additional funding provided by the Coalition Government under the Roads to Recovery, Black Spot and Bridges Renewal programs.”
