A second purpose built home to support adults with physical or intellectual disabilities is underway with the first sod turned today on the Ryder-Cheshire Mount Gambier project.Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the project, funded under the Government’s $500 million Building Better Regions Fund, will double the accommodation space to house people in the region with specific needs.
“The Second Home for Ryder-Cheshire Mount Gambier will accommodate individuals with a range of disabilities, providing an alternative to in-house care for families across the region,” Minister Nash said.
“I aim to build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren want to either stay in or come back to, and support facilities such as the Ryder-Cheshire project do that.”
Member for Barker, Tony Pasin, who joined the local community at the sod turn today, said the project demonstrates the Coalition Government’s ongoing commitment to deliver the infrastructure communities need.
“The purpose built home will include six bedrooms, bathrooms with special equipment, two lounge areas, a kitchen, dining area, private gardens and security fencing,” Mr Pasin said.
“The project will also provide economic benefits for the local community, expecting to create up to 14 jobs during construction, and another 17 direct and indirect jobs post construction.”
Ryder-Cheshire Mount Gambier Home Foundation Chair Neville Gilbertson said the new facility will be a valuable asset to our community.
“The supported accommodation will make a significant difference to the lives of another five young disabled members of our community,” Mr Gilbertson said.
“The project will also greatly enhance and further the image of Ryder-Cheshire both locally and on the wider front.”
This project is jointly funded with the Federal Coalition Government committing $530,000, Ryder-Cheshire Mount Gambier Home Foundation $420,343, Ryder-Cheshire Australia $100,000and Ryder-Cheshire Foundation $50,000.
