Today’s sod turning officially marks the start of construction on the Meningie Skate Park.

Member for Barker, Tony Pasin said the Federal Government has committed $200,000 to help bring this project to fruition.

The Coorong District Council has received a total of $2,899,359 via the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to fund this and other projects across the Council area.

“This funding under the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program enables Coorong District Council to deliver community facility and infrastructure improvements and upgrades across the council area.” Mr Pasin said.

“I am so pleased that this Federal Government funding will support worthwhile projects, like the Meningie Skate Park, for communities throughout the Coorong District Council.” Mr Pasin said.

“The Meningie Skate Park, surrounded by sports and recreation facilities will be a popular destination for the community.”

“The Skate Park will provide a flowy street and transition style facility. Catering to beginner and intermediate skill levels, the park will offer contemporary skate provision for the Meningie community.”

Mayor Paul Simmons said “Construction of this brand-new skate park facility is the pleasing result of the community seeing a need, raising their idea and working with Council to see it come to life.”

“Coorong District Council is appreciative of the support from the Federal Government which has enabled this project to go ahead – funding support through the Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program has provided opportunities for new Coorong community facilities that otherwise may not have been possible.” Mayor Simmons said.
