Dear Editor,

At the Tailem Bend Community meeting I facilitated in early August, concerns were raised about a determination of the Coorong District Council to dissolve the Murray Mallee Community Transport Scheme, ceasing their administration and transitioning the scheme to a new provider, essentially putting the continuation of the service in limbo.

This is an incredibly important program for the region, providing vulnerable or disadvantaged community members with transport services.

Over the last few months I have worked closely with the Tailem Bend Community Centre and advocated strongly for the preservation of the local volunteer network to my State Ministerial colleagues.

I am so pleased that the Tailem Bend Community Centre has now been awarded the contract to deliver the Community Passenger Network, with operations to commence on 1 January 2019, jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments.

I congratulate CEO Tammy Shepherd and the Community Centre on their successful tender. This is a great win for the Murray Mallee region.
