Dear Editor,

As someone who drives thousands of kilometres a year on the Princes Highway, I understand the safety concerns people have with this road. I’ve also had first-hand experience travelling the road in a heavy vehicle, thanks to Gary Hinton of Holla Fresh in 2016 which made me even more determined to fight for funding to see this important freight route upgraded.

The Princes Highway Corridor Strategy was commissioned by the Coalition Government in 2018 to provide a ‘whole of corridor’ perspective of the current and future role of the Princes Highway as a transport route.

The Strategy was supported with $1 billion to deliver a range of road upgrades along the Princes Highway corridor from NSW through to South Australia, where $190 million was invested by the Federal Coalition and State Liberal Governments in 2019 for the South Australian section of this important national transport corridor.

I’m pleased that works on the Overtaking Lanes and Junction upgrades on Princes Highway between Meningie and Tantanoola will commence this month.

This project all forms part of the Coalition Government’s $120 billion infrastructure pipeline that I am committed to seeing rolled out by the new Labor Government.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Pasin MP
