After a strong lobbying effort and successful win to gain an MRI Medicare licence for the Riverland in March 2019, Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed the news that the State Government construction has now commenced for the state-of-the-art facility that will house the new MRI machine in Berri.

The Federal Government has invested over $375 million over the forward estimates for 50 new locations around the country to receive a Medicare license and delivers on the Government’s commitment to improve access and outcomes for patients, particularly in regional areas like the Riverland.

“Well over 4,000 people signed my petition for an MRI, both online and in hard copy over a five week period, which I then presented to the Minister in Canberra. It helped prove that there was a strong need for this licence in the Riverland,” Mr Pasin said.

“After securing this licence it’s fantastic to know that the State Government are now investing $2 million in a new facility at the Riverland General Hospital to house the new SA Medical Imaging machine,” Mr Pasin said.

“Not only will the new Medicare supported MRI service ensure patients get better treatment and save money, it will save countless trips to Adelaide and the associated inconvenience.”
