- 4 in Barker funded under round two of the Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment stream
- The Coalition Government is investing $155,382 in Barker to support community activities
- Over 100 Community Investment stream projects will share in more than $4 million
Communities in Barker are set to receive a boost following the announcement of 4 successful projects under the Building Better Regions Fund – Community Investment stream.
Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin said the community-based projects were a positive investment in the region’s future.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the Barker electorate, with 4 projects receiving $155,382. These include Flying High, which will receive $15,882 to deliver the Flying High festival of kite making workshops to raise awareness for mental health. This event will allow kids to learn new skills, make new friends and have fun,” Mr Pasin said.
Also receiving funding though the program is the “Limestone Coast Leadership Program”, an initiative of the Limestone Coast Local Government Association, the project will receive $40,000 for a pilot regional leadership program.
The City of Mount Gambier will also receive $20,000 for “Guides of Mount Gambier – An Inclusive Visitor Economy Project”. This project will grow existing and new tourism businesses through workshops and support for tour guides and operators.
“Projects like these will drive economic growth and transform communities, ensuring that our region remains resilient and prosperous into the future.”
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the Building Better Regions Fund continues to deliver major benefits for rural, regional and remote communities throughout Australia.
“The Community Investment stream of the Building Better Regions Fund is another part of our plan for regional Australia. It supports community activities from expanded local events and strategic planning to improving leadership and capability,” Dr McVeigh said.
“Under round two, the Coalition Government is investing more than $4 million in over 100 Community Investment stream projects across Australia valued at over $7.3 million.
“This is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs which will beef up local economies.”
Dr McVeigh said the Coalition Government invested an additional $200 million in the 2018-19 Federal Budget to deliver another round of the Building Better Regions Fund.
“This is another great outcome delivered for regional Australia. The Coalition has a plan to deliver a stronger economy and more jobs and we are focused on getting it done.”
Successful projects for round two of the Infrastructure stream will be announced in the near future.
