RESTARTING ARTS FESTIVALS IN MURRAY BRIDGE

The Morrison Government is reigniting the arts and cultural sector in Barker, with two projects in Barker set to share more than $2.7 million under Round 13 of the Festivals Australia program.

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin said the Festivals Australia program is helping to reunite regional and remote communities with arts and culture.

“Through this targeted funding, including the additional $2.4 million provided through the Regional Arts Tourism Experiences package, we are providing access to a diverse range of high quality, innovative arts projects that will help boost tourism across Australia’s regions,” Mr Pasin said.

“We know that regional and remote artists, organisations and communities have been significantly affected by the pandemic, which is why this assistance is invaluable for the sector and is supporting a vibrant and sustainable future for festivals across Australia.” Mr Pasin said.

Mr Pasin said the Round 13 funding will support local artists and communities reemerge from the pandemic, while also providing a critical boost to the economy.

“I’m pleased to announce that the The Rural City of Murray Bridge have received $15,000 for their ‘Murray Bridge Fringe’ project – ‘Live Music in the Attic’ through Round 13 of the Festivals Australia program,” Mr Pasin said.

“The project will transform a room in the Murray Bridge Town Hall into a live music venue. With a capacity of 50 people it is intended that this space will be able be host a variety of smaller scale musical performances.”

“In addition, Fringe Mount Gambier have received $9,000 for their ‘Mount Gambier Fringe Festival’ project – ‘Fringe OUTREACH’, which will provide art experiences to be taken directly to positive aged community members living regionally, who experience barriers to accessing and participating in art events and experiences.”

The Festivals Australia program supports arts projects that invite community participation and audience engagement at festivals in regional and remote Australia.

The Morrison Government is investing more than $1 billion into the arts and creative sector in 2021-22.
