Member for Barker, Tony Pasin, wants everyone in Barker to act quickly to secure a half-price airfare to a leading Australian tourist destination.

The Morrison-McCormack Government’s 800,000 half-price airfare tickets are now on sale to support the aviation and tourism industries.

“I encourage everyone in Barker to take advantage of our Government’s half-price flights, book a holiday and support our tourism destinations that have been hardest hit by the closure of international borders,” Mr Pasin said.

“We need Australians to take a holiday because every dollar spent on an Australian holiday is a dollar that supports someone’s job, someone’s business and our tourism industry.

“We want Australians to do their patriotic duty and book a well-earned holiday this year through their travel agent, and while they’re away to eat at restaurants, go to the pubs, and book tours and experiences to get money flowing into our tourism businesses.

“The half-price flights will be available through travel agents or directly from the airline’s website from 1 April until 31 July, and tickets can be purchased for travel to 30 September 2021, so I urge everyone in Barker to act quickly and start planning that next getaway.”

The half-price flights are part of the Government’s $1.2 billion tourism and aviation support package, which will also provide low interest loans to small businesses, and additional support for airlines, airports and ground-handling companies to maintain jobs and capacity.

The half-price ticket program will initially operate to 15 key regions including; the Gold Coast, Tropical North Queensland (Cairns), Townsville, the Whitsundays and Mackay (Proserpine and Hamilton Island), the Sunshine Coast, Darwin, Lasseter and Alice Springs, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie, Hobart, Broome, Avalon, Merimbula, Adelaide and Kangaroo Island.

The Government is also launching an $8 million advertising campaign to promote the 15 tourism regions included as part of the cheap flights initiative.
