Tony Pasin MP to Host Community Pop-Up Information session on Proposed NTx Corridor 5

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin will host a community pop-up information session in Nuriootpa next week to help raise awareness of ElectraNet's proposed Northern Transmission Project (NTx) Corridor 5 and its potential impacts on northern Barossa communities.

Mr Pasin said many residents remained unaware of the scale of the proposal and the effect it could have on farming land, local communities and the region's landscape.

The informal information session will be held at the Barossa Co-op on Friday 19 June from 11.30am to 1.00pm and will be attended by members of the recently established Rethink the NTx Working Group.

"While more than 150 people attended the community forum at Ebenezer last month, there are still many residents who are only now becoming aware of what is being proposed," Mr Pasin said.

"ElectraNet's own documents indicate transmission towers could be up to 75 metres high, with easements of between 60 and 100 metres running across crossing productive farming land.

"The proposed Corridor 5 would cut through parts of the Barossa Preservation Zone, an area specifically protected to preserve the region's landscape, agricultural heritage and unique character for future generations. Many local residents are concerned that infrastructure of this scale is fundamentally at odds with the purpose of those protections.

"This session is simply about ensuring people have access to information and understand what is being proposed before important decisions are made."

Mr Pasin said concerns raised by residents to date included the impact on agricultural production, property access, biosecurity, visual amenity and the broader future of farming communities in the northern Barossa.

"The consistent message I have heard from local residents is that they want greater transparency and more meaningful engagement," he said.

"Barossa Valley residents deserve access to clear information and the opportunity to understand how it may affect them, their neighbours and their community.

"I have repeatedly called on ElectraNet to conduct open and transparent community consultation sessions along the proposed Corridor 5 so local residents can access the information they need and have their questions answered."

Mr Pasin said the session would provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions, access available information and speak directly with members of the community working group that was established following the Ebenezer forum.

"I encourage anyone with an interest in the project, whether directly affected or simply wanting to learn more, to drop in and have a conversation."
