Last year the Morrison Government made the commitment to back the hundreds of Men’s Sheds by allowing access to Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status in recognition of the invaluable work they do in our communities.

This week the Federal Government has delivered new fundraising potential for Men’s Sheds right across the nation with the passage of legislation creating a category of DGR for Sheds.

This means donations can attract an income tax deduction when donating $2 or more to a local Shed, provided the shed is registered with the Australian Tax Office for this status.

Member for Barker said this would significantly boost the fundraising potential of Men’s Sheds right around the country.

“By delivering DGR status for Men’s Sheds, our Government is partnering with the public in each and every donation made. Offering a tax deduction for those who donate to Sheds and incentivising more Australians and philanthropists to support their local Men’s Shed and the amazing work they do,” Mr Pasin said.

“I’m a member of each Men’s Shed in Barker and I visit them regularly, so I understand the important role they play in our communities. That’s why this additional support to boost their fundraising capabilities is such great news.”

“This legislation comes at such an important time, when COVID-19 has reminded us all of the importance of community and mental well-being,” Mr Pasin said.
