Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed Leader of the Opposition to the Riverland and Murraylands to hear from flood affected communities, better understand the opportunities for tourism and discuss infrastructure investment needed to benefit the region.
With the peak of flood waters now passed, Mr Pasin invited Mr Dutton to meet with Local Government representatives across the region regarding future infrastructure priorities including upgrading Twentyfirst St in Renmark, Bookpurnong Road and Kingston Road, to ensure the Riverland community is well prepared for future highwater events.
Mr Pasin also used the opportunity to explain the Spring Cart Gully crossing proposal and continue his advocacy for duplication of the Sturt Highway.
“A flood like this may only happen every 40 or 50 years, but we should be designing and planning now for flood mitigation where communities are separated and that’s what we’ve showed the Leader of the Opposition this week,” Mr Pasin said.
While in the region the Federal Members also met with the community of Mypolonga to celebrate the amazing community spirit on show during the flood preparation and recovery efforts.
Mr Pasin said he was pleased with how the two-day tour of the Murraylands and Riverland with Mr Dutton went and hoped it would add to his strong advocacy in the Federal Parliament.
“The River Murray is a spectacular place to live and visit. I hope that the last two days has shown, not just the Leader of the Opposition but a wider national audience that comes with a high profile visit like this that our region is worth visiting and worth investing in,” Mr Pasin said.
