A NEW YEAR PRESENT FOR BOATING, CAMPING, FISHING IN BEACHPORT

As South Australians enjoy summer holidays filled with boating, camping and fishing the Federal Government has delivered funding to projects to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the natural environment and boost regional economies.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said projects in Barker will receive funding from the Federal Government’s $20 million Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program.

“At a time when everyone is enjoying their summer holidays, I’m pleased to announce these projects which demonstrates the Federal Government’s vital support of our recreational fishers and regional communities.”

“This is an exciting funding program enabling councils in Barker to improve, maintain or build new boating, marine rescue, fishing and camping facilities.”

“The projects range from installing new jetties to building or upgrading toilet blocks – all of which are important facilities to attract and support recreational fishing, boating and camping in our regions.”

Wattle Range Council received $87,000 to upgrade two pontoons at Beachport Boat Ramp.

“This project will replace two pontoons at Beachport Boat Ramp including installation of handrails. The two existing pontoons have been repaired multiple times and are now at end of life requiring replacement and the handrail is an added safety feature due to the slope, particularly at low tide.”

“We know when people fish there are significant economic benefits because people often stay in the local community, shop, visit the local tackle shop and eat at restaurants, which all support local jobs.” Mr Pasin said.

“Improving these facilities provides both locals and visitors with better opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.” Mr Pasin said.

• Coorong District Council received $67,500 to upgrade the Meningie Boat Ramp Jetty.
• District Council of Loxton Waikerie received $157,000 to upgrade the Loxton Boat Ramp and Pontoon.
• Renmark Paringa Council received $75,000 for the provision of a toilet block at Murtho.
