Every year on January 26 Australians around the nation and those living around the world reflect on what it means to be Australian.

For me Australia Day is a reminder of the tremendous freedoms we enjoy and of how lucky we are to live in the greatest Country in the world.

After a year that has challenged us more than any year since the Second World War, I have never been more proud of being Australian.

We are making our own Australian way through this crisis. A way guided by our enduring principles and values. Together, we have done so better than almost any other country in the world and we have many reasons to be optimistic about our future.

On Australia Day we celebrate all the things we love about Australia: our sense of fair go, our diversity and lifestyle, our cohesive society, our democracy and the freedoms we enjoy, our resilience and generosity in the face of adversity and our unwavering community spirit that has always been a part of our national character.

To all Australians on January 26 be proud, be thankful and enjoy a great Australia Day.
