Barker residents urged to have say on Aged Care Staffing

Member for Barker Tony Pasin is urging interested local residents to have their say on the staffing of Aged Care homes in the Barker region and across the nation, by participating in an online survey or by contributing in writing to the current national review of the Aged Care workforce.

“Everyone understands how important appropriately resourcing and training staff is to providing the care our senior Australians deserve,” said Mr Pasin.

“This is a top Coalition Government priority, which is why the Aged Care Minister Ken Wyatt has commissioned a comprehensive taskforce to develop Australia’s first aged Care workforce strategy by July this year.”

Mr Pasin said the taskforce’s work would be critical for future care provision, with predictions the Aged Care workforce will need to grow from the current level of approximately 366,000 to almost one million by 2050.

The workforce taskforce has a $2 million budget to support detailed consultation and research across the country, and is currently seeking public comment.

“I urge local seniors, their families, community members and aged care staff to get involved by going to the taskforce’s online consultation hub and completing the survey,” Mr Pasin said.
