Desert Rose is hitting the road to give people in rural South Australia easy access to government services.
Staff on board have delivered Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support services to almost 140,000 customers since 2016.
The two 20 tonne trucks are run by the Department of Human Services and have travelled over 800,000 kilometres and to more than 4000 communities.
Minister for Human Services Michael Keenan said Desert Rose provides tailored support and information to people in rural communities.
“Mobile Service Centres reinforce the Australian Government’s commitment to delivering the best services to all Australians, regardless of where they live,” Minister Keenan said.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin said Desert Rose is travelling to rural areas in South Australia’s Riverland region.
He said staff on board will help with Centrelink claims, Medicare registrations and online services.
Mr Pasin added a social worker would accompany the team to offer specialised support to people in need.
Information about Department of Veterans’ Affairs programs and associated support services is also available.
“This is a great opportunity to meet face-to-face with specialist staff without having to drive long distances to do so,” Mr Pasin said.
“You don’t need an appointment, and it’s free – so anyone who needs help or has a question should visit the team aboard Desert Rose.”
