Tony Pasin, Member for Barker, visited Barossa Village on Friday to announce funding of $10,000 to go towards upgrading the kitchen, activity centre and outdoor area.
The funding from the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme will allow Barossa Village to create an environment that provides and encourages older members of the community to meet and socialise on a daily basis.
“I congratulate Barossa Village on their successful application, and am looking forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have in the community,” Mr Pasin said.
The Stronger Communities Program provides not for profit organisations access to funds for small capital projects aimed at strengthening communities by improving community facilities.
“Barossa Village currently supports 550 elderly people in the Barossa community and this is predicted to grow substantially over the next 5 to 10 years.
Barossa Village is a worthy recipient of funding as they are working hard to support and engage with members of the community who are experiencing feelings of isolation and loneliness. It really is a great example of a project that will help build a stronger community,” said Mr Pasin.
Barossa Village CEO Simon Newbold welcomed the $10,000 grant, saying “because of this we can now create a wonderful community facility at the Joy Rice Centre that will provide cafe style dining, a theatrette and multi-media centre. This gives our older community members a greater opportunity to meet and socialize on a regular basis.” Mr Newbold also acknowledged the ongoing support of Mr Pasin for the Barossa region.
