GREEN TRIANGLE FORESTRY HUB FUNDING EXTENDED TO 2025

The Green Triangle region is set to benefit from $900,000 new Australian Government funding to support growth in its forest industries.

Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud said the Australian Government’s investment in the Regional Forestry Hubs was a show of faith in our forest industries and the benefits that they deliver for regional communities and the Australian economy.

“The Australian Government is providing more than $10.6 million over 4 years for existing Regional Forestry Hubs and the establishment of two new hubs in Eden NSW, and the Northern Territory,” Minister Littleproud said.

“We are committed to delivering positive outcomes for the industry Australia-wide and are backing those who rely on the productivity of the sector every step of the way.

“The Green Triangle region is a key forestry area with strong potential for growth and innovation, with skilled forestry workers, transport routes and processing plants.”

Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries Jonno Duniam said he is looking forward to continuing to work with the hub Chair Mr Cameron MacDonald to support forestry industries in the Green Triangle Regional Forestry Hub.

“The hub model empowers each region to identify and assess their local issues and develop local solutions, while benefitting from working alongside other hubs across Australia,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.

“This is all about getting the right trees, at the right scale, in the right places.

“I am really pleased with the way the hubs are working together and building momentum across the country, and they have been enormously popular with the industry.

“The sector has faced numerous challenges over the last couple of years, but our forest industries are resilient and we’re working together to build a strong and sustainable future for Australia’s forest industries.

“Forestry delivers terrific environmental outcomes and timber is the ultimate renewable resource.”

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said that growing the plantation estate takes time and this funding demonstrates the Australian Government’s commitment to long-term, sustainable investment in forestry in the Green Triangle region.

“This new funding will secure the future of our forestry hub and its important work with industry, state and local governments, key stakeholders and the community,” Mr Pasin said.

“It builds upon the $1 million of funding the hub received when established in 2019.”

“The hub is assessing production forestry resources, processing capacity and infrastructure needs and limitations and finding ways to support innovation and growth in our region.”

“The Green Triangle Hub, one of the first to be established, has published plans to expand the regional plantation estate by 200 million trees over the next decade.”
