The Kapunda Heavy Vehicle Detour works are completed with East Terrace now open to Heavy Vehicles thanks to $1.9 million in Federal Government Funding delivered under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.

Officially opening the newly upgraded transport route, Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP said the $3.8 million project would provide for a safer, more efficient route for heavy vehicles by utilising East Terrace between Thiele Highway and Perry Road rather than travelling through the town centre.

“Getting products from paddock to plate or port is a vital part of Australia’s growing agriculture and transport industries, which is why the Morrison Government is investing in making freight routes like this safer,” he said.

“This project has been important not only for productivity gains for industry but the safety of all road users and pedestrians,” Mr Pasin said.

The Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program provides funding to improve the safety and efficiency of important heavy vehicle routes around the nation.

“Being connected is vital for sustainable, productive regions and that’s why continued investment into our road network is so important,” Mr Pasin said.

Mr Pasin said the Coalition Government’s record $120 billion investment in infrastructure was helping better connect regional communities.

“To improve local roads, we are investing more in infrastructure programs including Roads to Recovery, Road Safety, Black Spot, Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity, Targeted Road Safety Works, Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot and Bridges Renewal,” Mr Pasin said.

These programs have already delivered key infrastructure projects for Barker including upgrading Bridges on Stockwell Road, Gomersal Road, Eudunda Road, Gerald Roberts Road, Lyndoch Road as well as intersections on Stockwell Road at Carrara Hill Road and Penrice Road.

“We are also funding the building of Truro Bypass with more than $160 million in Federal Government funding, Mr Pasin said.

“It’s all part of our plan to boost regional industries, grow regional economies and improve regional infrastructure and services, making our regions even better places to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Pasin said.
