Member for Barker, Tony Pasin MP today expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Australian Government to a local veteran for his service and sacrifice during times of both war and peace.Mr Pasin presented Mr Darrin Brown a certificate of Appreciation under the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorations Program.

Mr Brown served in the Royal Australian Navy for the period 6 March 1989 to 2 November 1993 during the Gulf War.

“I was honoured today to present this Certificate of Appreciation to a man who has proudly served our nation. The certificate recognises his service in both war time and peace,” Mr Pasin said.

Mr Brown has previously been awarded an Australian Active Service Medal with Clasp Kuwait, Australian Service Medal with Clasp Kuwait, Meritorious Unit Citation and Returned from Active Service Badge.

Under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Saluting Their Service commemorations program, Certificates of Appreciation are available to those who have served during the Second World War (in the armed forces or as civilians on the home front), with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) Japan, Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Indonesian Confrontation, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, War in Afghanistan and during peacekeeping operations.

Certificates of Appreciation are also available as a lasting legacy to the family of deceased eligible veterans and civilians.

“It is important that we as a community continue to recognise the contribution of our local veterans, whether it be on overseas service or at home. I therefore encourage people to apply for a certificate under this program,” Mr Pasin said.
