The Millicent Community Arts Centre has a new kiln thanks in part to a Federal Government Grant of $7,000 through the Stronger Communities Program.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP visited the Centre this week.

The Millicent Craft Group has been a part of the local community for 30 years and is an outlet for a variety of community members with all abilities and health issues. The new kiln will provide social inclusion and an outlet for artisan small business.

“This kiln is helping to maintain and grow social inclusion in Millicent through the existing pottery group. Pottery is a creative and therapeutic recreational activity and this is great addition to the Centre that is helping to make Millicent a stronger community,” Mr Pasin said.

Mr Pasin said the Stronger Communities program is aimed at funding projects that deliver social and economic benefits and form part of the Coalition Government’s continuing commitment to strengthen local communities across Australia.

“Our local communities are the heart of this country and the investment in local projects under the Stronger Communities Programme is about just that – strengthening communities and ensuring they have the facilities and the infrastructure to remain vibrant, great places to live into the future,” Mr Pasin said.
