Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has joined Mayor Simmons to officially open the newly upgraded Wellington East Reserve.

Mr Pasin delivered $450,000 through the Coalition Government’s Murray Darling Basin Economic Development Program in 2020 for the upgrade which has now been completed.

“The popular area has been given a new lease of life and will now offer a new attractive central hub to draw visitors to discover more and stay a little longer in the region,” Mr Pasin said.

“I congratulate the Coorong District Council on the project’s completion.”

“I’m so pleased to be able to deliver funding that is seeing projects like this reinvigorate public spaces along the river to encourage tourism and ensure our river communities are even better places to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Pasin said.

The Murray Darling Basin Economic Development Program aims to assist communities to undertake economic development activities to offset the negative impacts of past water recovery under the Basin Plan.

Since its inception in 2019, the program has provided $72.7 million in funding for 132 projects within the Basin.

“The Murray Darling Basin Economic Development Program was all part of the former Coalition Government’s commitment to the 2.6 million Australian’s who call the Basin home- to build regional strength, and keeping communities at the heart of the Basin Plan,” Mr Pasin said.
