BIG AUSSIE BBQ DELIVERS FOR PROSTATE CANCER

Tony Pasin’s 12th annual Big Aussie BBQ has raised $1,200 for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

This year’s result takes the total raised over the past 12 years to well over $12,000, thanks to the generosity of the Mount Gambier community.

“Every September since 2015, I’ve held a Big Aussie BBQ to help our local Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia raise funds and awareness,” Mr Pasin said.

In 2014, Mr Pasin attended Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s Big Aussie Barbie at Parliament House in Canberra.

“It was at that BBQ in 2014 that the startling facts about the diagnosis and death rate of prostate cancer were made plain to me. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in Australian men, with nearly 29,000 Australian men diagnosed each year,” Mr Pasin said.

“Thanks to the generosity of our community and the efforts of the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group, we have raised thousands of dollars for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.”

“But most importantly, we’ve had hundreds of conversations over the BBQ over the years, and if just one of those conversations led to an early diagnosis that saved a life, it’s all worth it.”

“Early detection gives men the best chance of successful treatment and survival. A PSA test is a simple blood test, so I encourage men not to put it off. Ask your GP to arrange a simple blood test,” Mr Pasin said.

Mr Pasin thanked the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group and the local businesses Baker's Delight, Shelton's Butchers and Coates Hire who once again supported this year’s event and helped make the annual BBQ possible.

Mr Pasin also thanked Key2Sale Real Estate who gave a generous $500 donation.
