Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed funding for the Frances Progress Association to upgrade the Netball Courts.
Planned upgrades at the Border District Netball Club on Second Street, Frances include court resurfacing, foundations for new lighting and new fencing.
Mr Pasin said the $640,000 Federal Government grant that will enable the $700,000 project progress is fantastic news for the region.
“I’m passionate about working with the community to help deliver local infrastructure, particularly sporting clubs because of the vitally important role they play in regional communities,” Mr Pasin said.
“I threw my full support behind local Play Our Way applications because it is imperative that facilities are functional and fit for purpose to sustain and grow membership, particularly in for projects that reduce barriers to participation in sport for women and girls.”
“For too long, too many female club members have had to contend with sub-standard infrastructure and facilities, particularly in the regions. We desperately need to address this inequality because strong and inclusive grassroots sporting clubs help strengthen regional communities like Francis,”
“I’m looking forward to funding being received to get work at the Border District Netball Club underway as quickly as possible in the lead up to next season,” Mr Pasin said.
Mel Jordan, Secretary of Francis Progress Association said the funding was very appreciated.
“The Frances community is extremely grateful to be receiving funding through the Play Our Way grant.”
“The funding will be used for a much-needed upgrade to our netball/tennis courts, which are currently in a state of disrepair, and are vital in retaining sport in our district and future proofing our community for generations to come,” Mel said.
