Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed funding for the Imperial Netball Club to upgrade the Netball courts, grandstand and shelter facilities.

Mr Pasin said the $750,000 Federal Government grant that will enable the $800,000 project to progress is fantastic news for the region.

“I’m passionate about working with the community to help deliver local infrastructure, particularly sporting clubs because of the vitally important role they play in regional communities,” Mr Pasin said.

“I threw my full support behind local Play Our Way applications because it is imperative that facilities are functional and fit for purpose to sustain and grow membership, particularly for projects that reduce barriers to participation in sport for women and girls.”

“For too long, too many female club members have had to contend with sub-standard infrastructure and facilities, particularly in the regions. We desperately need to address this inequality because strong and inclusive grassroots sporting clubs help strengthen regional communities, particularly areas poised for growth such as the Murraylands.”

“I’m looking forward to funding being received to get work at the Club underway as quickly as possible in the lead up to next season,” Mr Pasin said.

Imperials Netball Club Committee Member Sarah Smith said it was a huge win for the Club and wider community.

“It’s incredibly exciting news that will see the future of the Imperials Netball Club secured for generations to come. The planned upgrades will ensure women and girls have continued opportunities to play netball and our club’s membership can grow with the growth of the region. We are grateful for all the support we’ve received for the project from the community,” said Ms Smith.
