Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has met with Southern Mallee District Council to discuss the need for increased investment in roads and see first-hand the lasting benefits delivered to the Southern Mallee through the Coalition Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI).
Mr Pasin said the $3.25 billion LRCI program was designed by the former Coalition Government to support jobs and economic growth has delivered improved roads and community infrastructure to local communities across the country.
“The former Coalition Government partnered with the Southern Mallee District Council to ensure we delivered projects for the local community that not only supported jobs, construction businesses and economic growth but have improving community infrastructure to ensure the region’s communities remain great places to live, work and raise a family into the future,” Mr Pasin said.
Mr Pasin said the Southern Mallee received a total of $2.6 million under the LRCI program.
“It has been really exciting to visit the Southern Mallee and see so many projects now completed. Projects such as Lameroo Memorial Hall upgrades, the Pinnaroo Institute upgrade, Pinnaroo Pool renewal as well as the eastern entrance to both Lameroo and Pinnaroo,” Mr Pasin said.
“The LRCI program managed to get these projected done and dusted and delivering for the community while Council has been able make local roads such as Lameroo South Road and Kulkami Road safer and more productive,” Mr Pasin said.
“It’s incredibly disappointing that the Albanese Labor Government has decided to discontinue the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. It means less funding for local councils for much needed local road repairs and to maintain community facilities,” Mr Pasin said.
