Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed funding announced for Mannum Sporting Complex.
The project will upgrade the netball and tennis courts, install new lighting, new female change rooms and amenities, a gym space as well as upgrades to wastewater services.
Mr Pasin said the Federal Government grant of $1.1 million will enable the project progress.
“I’m passionate about working with the community to help deliver local infrastructure, particularly sporting facilities because of the vitally important role grassroots sport plays in regional communities,” Mr Pasin said.
“I threw my full support behind local Play Our Way applications in Barker because it is imperative that facilities are functional and fit for purpose, particularly for projects that reduce barriers to participation in sport for women and girls.”
“For too long, too many female club members have had to contend with sub-standard infrastructure and facilities, particularly in the regions. We desperately need to address this inequality because strong and inclusive grassroots sporting clubs help strengthen regional communities.”
“I’m looking forward to funding being received to get work on the project underway as quickly as possible,” Mr Pasin said.
Mid-Murray Council Mayor Simone Bailey was thrilled about the successful application made by the Council.
"This funding is a game-changer for our community, providing modern, inclusive facilities that will strengthen our connections and support local clubs. It’s an investment that will benefit generations to come.”
"This project highlights the incredible outcomes achievable through collaboration between Council, local clubs, and the Federal Government. It’s a vital investment in the wellbeing of our residents, the growth of local sport, and the vibrancy of our community spaces. Thank you to everyone involved," said Mayor Bailey.
