At the Mount Gambier Swimming Club Short Course Swimming Championships at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Center, Mt Gambier, Sunday 14 July 2024, Tony Pasin MP, Member for Barker awarded the Mount Gambier Swimming Club a Federal Government Volunteer Grant worth $4,450.

The swimming meet catered for 174 swimmers, many traveling from as far away as Adelaide and Melbourne to compete and included 32 local members of the Mt Gambier Swimming Club, all trying to secure State and Country Qualifying times.

Mr Pasin noted that the Wulanda Centre was abuzz with competitors and their families, and he took the time to thank volunteers for organising this important and significant event.

“Volunteers are the people who fortify and support the Club and without them events like this swimming meet wouldn’t be able to be held and, the Mount Gambier community wouldn’t have enjoyed the economic benefits this carnival brought to Mount Gambier over the weekend.

“Modest but meaningful support that the Mt Gambier Swimming Club received supports the important work of the volunteers”, Mr Pasin said.

This grant will be used by the Club to purchase two portable marquees to provide shade and shelter for volunteers at swimming club events plus, the purchase of an iPad for the swimming coaches to video of swimmers to assist in providing visual feedback and training assistance to the athletes.

On presenting the Volunteer Grant cheque to Club President Nathan Stratford, Mr Pasin said that it’s fantastic to be able to support the Club and their many volunteers with this grant, it’s a small way to say thanks for the critical contribution they make to the Mount Gambier community.

Mr Pasin said that this grant, together with similar grants help to make volunteering easier for the thousands of volunteers who selflessly give of their time to assist others.
