Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has awarded the Mount Gambier Toy Library a Federal Government Volunteer Grant worth $4,000 to purchase a laptop and portable shelving for the John Frew Centre based service.

Founded in 1979, The Mount Gambier Toy Library is a community not-for-profit organisation providing a service for families in the district with children up to the age of 6.

Run entirely by a dedicated group of local volunteers, the organisation provides families with quality toys to foster creativity, expand imaginations, improve hand-eye dexterity, and provide important life skills all while delivering pure, plain, simple fun.

“With many families feeling the impact of the current cost of living crisis, the Toy Library is a fantastic way to provide children with new toys every few weeks. Families can save money without having to sacrificing the development and learning outcomes that are achieved through play,” Mr Pasin said.

The toy library is also a waste-reducing initiative forming part of a circular economy.

Mr Pasin said that this grant, together with similar grants help to make volunteering easier for thousands of volunteers who selflessly give of their time to help others.

“I am proud to deliver volunteer grants to organisations including the Mount Gambier Toy Library to support the crucial role that the organisation and its volunteers play within the community,” Mr Pasin said.
