PASIN’S BIG AUSSIE BBQ BACK FOR TWELFTH YEAR

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Member for Barker Tony Pasin will once again host his Big Aussie BBQ with the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

This year marks the twelfth time the BBQ has been held at Mr Pasin’s Commercial Street East office, raising thousands of dollars for the cause since it began.

“Every September since 2015, I’ve held a Big Aussie BBQ to help our local Prostate Cancer Support Group and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia raise funds and awareness,” Mr Pasin said.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with nearly 29,000 Australian men diagnosed each year. Around 79 men are diagnosed every day and approximately 11 men die from the disease each day.

In 2014, Mr Pasin attended Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s Big Aussie Barbie at Parliament House in Canberra.

“It was at that BBQ in 2014 that the startling facts about the diagnosis and death rate of prostate cancer were made plain to me,” Mr Pasin said.

“The following year, I decided to hold a Big Aussie BBQ in Mount Gambier and got the local Prostate Cancer Support Group on board.

“Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have raised thousands of dollars for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

“But most importantly, we’ve had hundreds of conversations over the BBQ over the years, and if just one of those conversations led to an early diagnosis that saved a life, it’s all worth it.”

The 2026 Mount Gambier Big Aussie BBQ will be held on Wednesday, 2 September from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Tony Pasin’s office, 27 Commercial Street East, Mount Gambier.

This year, Mr Pasin has also established an online fundraising page through Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, allowing people who cannot attend the BBQ to contribute to the cause.

“I encourage community members to leave their lunch at home and come along for a snag and a chat,” Mr Pasin said.

“If you can’t make it on the day, you can still show your support by making a donation online. Every

contribution helps fund vital prostate cancer research, awareness and support services.”

Mr Pasin thanked the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group and the local businesses supporting the event for helping make the annual BBQ possible.
