Regional Australia already faces significant disadvantages compared to major cities. From access to health care, childcare, banking services or mobile phone reception.
Now it seems watching our local lads play AFL on free-to-air TV is also in danger of being lost.
Commonwealth Legislation known as the Anti-siphoning scheme requires sporting events that are of national importance and cultural significance to be broadcast free to air. This includes AFL, Test Cricket, the Olympics, the Melbourne Cup and many others.
The reality is that streaming is not an always an option in regional Australia.
I’m standing up for regional television audiences, including the elderly and more vulnerable sections of the community that either do not have the means or are unable to access fast or affordable internet otherwise.
While I have written to the Federal Minister requesting intervention based on the Anti-Siphoning scheme, I’m asking for your help to demonstrate how important free-to-air TV is to our community.
Sign the petition and encourage Seven West Media to continue their contractual agreement with WIN TV to broadcast into the Limestone Coast and Riverland regions of South Australia free to air.
