STUDENTS AT RAMCO PRIMARY LEARN ABOUT CIVICS AND CITIZENSHIP
Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has visited Ramco Primary School to formally present the school with an Australian National Flag and speak with students about civics, citizenship and Australia’s democratic system.
The visit followed an application from Ramco Primary School through Mr Pasin’s Australian National Flag program, which enables schools and community groups across the electorate to apply for a flag to proudly fly on their flagpole.
Mr Pasin said he was delighted to visit the school and personally present the flag to students and staff.
“Presenting a National Flag is always a special occasion, and it was fantastic to see how engaged and enthusiastic the students at Ramco Primary were,” Mr Pasin said.
During the visit, Mr Pasin spoke with Year 3, 4 and 5 students about the history and significance of the Australian National Flag, what it represents, and why national symbols matter.
He also gave students an insight into his role as their local federal member, how the Australian Parliament works, and how laws are made at a national level, answering a range of thoughtful questions from the class.
“I always enjoy visiting schools to talk about how our democracy works and what it means to represent a regional electorate like Barker in Parliament,” Mr Pasin said.
Mr Pasin also shared part of his own story, encouraging students to believe in their own potential.
“I told the students that I went to a small school in Mount Gambier like theirs, and that my journey shows no matter where you come from or where you grow up, opportunities are open to you,” he said.
“If you’re curious, willing to learn and prepared to have a go, there’s no limit to what you can achieve, including one day serving your community or even your country.”
Mr Pasin said school visits remain an important part of connecting young people with civics education and inspiring the next generation to take an interest in public life.
