Volunteer Grant Delivers Practical Boost for Mount Gambier Pony Club

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin has visited the Mount Gambier & District Pony Club to see first-hand the kitchen upgrade completed with funds awarded through the Federal Government Volunteer Grant program.

The $5,000 grant has enabled the club to replace ageing kitchen facilities and equipment, creating a safer and more functional workspace for the volunteers who support the club's monthly rallies, major equestrian events and annual Horse Trials.

Mr Pasin said the improvements would make a real difference to the volunteers who are the backbone of the club.

"Volunteers are at the heart of community organisations like the Mount Gambier & District Pony Club, and this grant is helping make their job easier and safer," Mr Pasin said.

"The upgraded kitchen includes modern appliances, improved food preparation areas and better facilities for volunteers, allowing them to continue supporting the club's regular activities and the major events that bring competitors and visitors to the Limestone Coast."

Mount Gambier & District Pony Club committee member Jodie Widdison said the grant had delivered a significant improvement for the club's volunteers and members.

"This year marks 30 years since our club moved to its current grounds, so the kitchen facilities were well overdue for an upgrade," Ms Widdison said.

"The new equipment has made a huge difference to the way our volunteers can work safely and efficiently, particularly during our larger events, which regularly attract more than 150 competitors, officials and spectators."

The Mount Gambier & District Pony Club hosts regular equestrian competitions and is a well-regarded venue for events attracting riders from across the region and interstate.

Mr Pasin said investing in volunteer infrastructure was an investment in the future of regional communities.

"Volunteer Grants deliver practical improvements that strengthen community organisations and recognise the enormous contribution volunteers make every day."

"It was great to see the completed project firsthand and meet some of the dedicated volunteers whose commitment keeps the club running. Their efforts ensure the Pony Club continues to provide opportunities for local riders and remain an important part of the Limestone Coast community."

The Volunteer Grants Program assists community organisations to purchase equipment and undertake small-scale projects that support and encourage volunteering across Australia.
