WIN TV HAS FORFEITED ITS RIGHT TO BROADCAST CHANNEL 7 IN REGIONAL SOUTH
AUSTRALIA

WIN Television’s decision to rip Channel 7 off air in the Riverland and the Limestone Coast is a flagrant
breach of the conditions of its commercial television licence.

Tens of thousands of families across these communities woke up Tuesday morning to the reality that
channel Seven programs were no longer being broadcast, no AFL, no Sunrise, no Home and Away, no local
news and the prospect of no Test cricket this summer.

“While city viewers carry on as normal, regional Australians have been thrown under the bus by a
broadcaster that has put its own interests ahead of the public that it is licensed to serve” Mr Pasin said.
“I am advised that Channel 7 is disappointed that their programming is currently off the air in the Riverland
and the Limestone Coast. This is a regrettable decision by WIN who have terminated negotiations with
Seven and refuse to broadcast Seven’s programs” Mr Pasin said.

“More than 2,500 households across Barker have signed my petition demanding that WIN and Seven find a
solution. Instead, WIN has flicked the switch to ‘off’, showing utter contempt for regional Australians” said
Mr Pasin

“I am calling on the Minister for Communications and the Australian Communications and Media Authority
(ACMA) to issue WIN with an immediate show‑cause notice. If WIN cannot demonstrate compliance within
seven days, its Channel 7 licence in the relevant markets must be cancelled pursuant to the Broadcasting
Services Act,” said Mr Pasin.

In the event that the licence is cancelled, ACMA must then, without delay, commence an expedited
allocation process under section 36 of the Act, inviting eligible broadcasters to apply so that the Seven signal
is restored to the Riverland and the Limestone Coast as soon as practicable.

I will not allow constituents in my electorate to become collateral damage in a commercial stoush between
media companies” said Mr Pasin.
