WIN TV’s sudden axing of free to air access to Sky News programs on June 30, 2024, in the Riverland and Mount Gambier is very disappointing.
The broadcasting of television news and current affairs through regional Australia is crucial to ensuring all Australians have access to coverage of important and topical issues, no matter their postcode.I understand that this decision was taken by WIN TV on a commercial basis but the failure by WIN TV to communicate this decision with their SA regional customers in a timely way has left many viewers and advertisers perplexed.
While news services can be accessed via paid subscriptions, this further impacts regional Australians battling with Labor’s home-grown cost of living crisis.
My office has been inundated with calls and emails from members of the community expressing their dismay and frustration at being cut off from an important source of news without notice.
In response, I have launched a petition calling on WIN TV to reinstate the broadcast of Sky News program into South Australia’s regional areas.
If you would like this service reinstated, please sign the petition here
