The Barker Electorate

The Division of Barker is an Australian Electoral Division in the south-east of South Australia. The division was established on 2 October 1903, when South Australia’s original single multi-member division was split into seven single-member divisions.

It is named for Collet Barker, an early explorer of the region at the mouth of the Murray River. The 63,886 km² seat currently stretches from Morgan in the north to Port MacDonnell in the south, taking in the Murray Mallee, the Riverland, the Murraylands and most of the Barossa Valley,

How good is it to see a mobile phone tower going up in regional Australia! 📞

This tower in Parilla is being built by Telstra thanks to over $800,000 in funding from the former Coalition Federal Government in 2022.

The bad news is that Tuesday nights Federal Budget scrapped the Mobile Blackspot Program and provided $0 for the ‘Better Connectivity Plan’ beyond 2026/27.

The Albanese Labor Government is simply not serious about connectivity for the regions.

So the LNP had 10 years, how many did they build?

Under Labor, the aspiration of home ownership has become out of reach.

The Coalition’s priority is restoring the dream of home ownership.

To alleviate pressure on the housing market, we will:

🏠 Reduce permanent migration – from 185,000 to 140,000 for two years (then 150,000 in year three and 160,000 in year four).

🏠 Return the refugee and humanitarian program planning level to the long-term average – from 20,000 to 13,750.

🏠 Reduce the numbers of foreign students at metropolitan universities, increase the student visa fee and apply it to foreign students who change courses.

🏠 Implement a two-year ban on foreign residents purchasing existing homes.

💰 BUDGET 2024 💰

Tonights Budget is a big-spending, big-taxing con job.

The Albanese Labor Governments third Budget does nothing to restore what Labor has cost Australians, and we are all poorer for it.

Your mob had ten years Tony?

Just to understand you guys think that this is a good budget. That the token hand outs compensate for the increase in cost of living. That subsidising Andrew Forest, Malcolm Turnbull and Cannon Brooks Is a good thing Just to start

Good point because historically prices have gone down, especially under Liberal governments 🙄. Seriously, it’s one thing to prey on people’s ignorance but to be so misleading is beneath you.

This must be a joke. So you want Labor to drop tax rate to 0% to give more disposable income? Right, but then where does the government income come from? Interest rates have gone up as they went to 0% during Covid, fuelling the cost of living. Rents are tied to mortgage rates as landlords want a return on their investment. Ask the local cafe to pay their staff more, this pushes up costs, so the coat of a coffee goes up leaving less in pockets. Seriously Tony where's your budget?

The road toll last month was 25% higher than the average for April over the previous 5 years.

438 people have died on our roads so far this year - a 10% increase on this time last year.

Tonight’s budget must include increased investment in Australia’s road infrastructure together with targeted, evidence-based road safety initiatives. Labor has let the road safety task languish for too long.

Tonight the Albanese Labor Government hands down its third budget.

This budget must be focused on bringing inflation down and restoring Australians’ standard of living.

This budget must be focused on bringing inflation down and restoring Australians’ standard of living.Families and small businesses are feeling the impact of Labor's home grown inflation, with the cost of food, housing and power bills increasing over the last two years.

Australians are not receiving the relief that the Albanese Labor Government has consistently promised - we're seeing the exact opposite.

Back in Canberra for Budget week and I had the opportunity to pop into the Parliament House gift shop to see the South Australian showcase, including a number of amazing locally made and designed products from Barker.

Fantastic to be part of the initiative and help put some of Barker’s best small businesses on the national stage!

George the Farmer, Transmutation - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and Diramu are being proudly showcased here in our Nation’s Capital!

On behalf of Transmutation - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, it was a pleasure to meet you Tony and share their amazing story and future plans.

It was fantastic to look through the childhood home of former Prime Minister Bob Hawke last week while in Bordertown.

The project received Federal Government funding to renovate the house and pay tribute to Bob Hawke and his family.

It’s now an accommodation offering in Bordertown, adding to the tourism appeal of the region.

The Coalition stands with Australian sheep producers and if elected, we will reverse this disastrous policy.

The Coalition stands with Australian sheep producers and if elected, we will reverse this disastrous policy.Sheep Producers Australia and WoolProducers Australia have released a joint statement today expressing Outrage around the Government's complete lack of awareness for the mental health and livelihoods of our regional Australians.

“What we are seeing play out is a complete disregard for what is currently happening in WA. The timing of this announcement cements the Commonwealth's utter lack of understanding of our industry. Producers are seeding, carting water, supplementary feeding, and many currently lambing, how much more stress are they expected to bear?” Jo Hall CEO WoolProducers Australia.

“The impact of this announcement today is immense - clarification is needed on next steps. We have kept the government regularly informed of the challenges WA producers are facing for the past twelve months. It is bitterly disappointing to see the media make this announcement before industry is briefed. Where is the respect for human welfare – for people’s lives and livelihoods? We will continue to fight for our people and our industry.” Bonnie Skinner CEO Sheep Producers Australia. #keepthesheep #producers #markets #action #wheresthedata #regionalaustralia www.sheepproducers.com.au/mediarelease

www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/politics/sussan-ley-backs-labors-sheep-export-ban/video/28543b3... The Deputy leader of the Liberal Party Sussan Ley has been against the live export of sheep for years. We as farmers and industries affected by this terrible decision need to see where All Colation members and candidates stand on this reversal claim given it’s inner city votes you need to win to claim government at the next election.
