Designs underway for Alawoona Silo Art with Stronger Communities funding

Member for Barker, Tony Pasin MP, has today presented a cheque for $2,500 to Loxton Community Futures Inc. (LCFi) under Round 9 of the Stronger Communities Program to progress the design stage of an exciting silo art project in Alawoona.

The grant will allow LCFi to engage an artist to create concept designs to help realise the project which is to be installed on the Alawoona silo. The concept plans will provide the community with a clear plan for the artwork and its themes.

“I’m thrilled that LCFi has received this Stronger Communities grant,” Mr Pasin said. “It’s a wonderful example of a small but impactful project that helps bring communities together, celebrates local heritage and lays the groundwork to drive tourism in the region. Initiatives like this have the potential to make our towns more vibrant and strengthen local identity.”

“The Stronger Communities Program, initiated by the former Coalition Government, has been supporting community groups across Barker since 2015 to deliver social benefits through place-based projects.”

The Alawoona Community Group has already begun community consultation, with residents eager to see the silo artwork reflect both the history of the township and its proud connection to football legend Russell Ebert.

Once complete, the Alawoona project aims to join the State and National Silo Art Trail, adding to South Australia’s growing reputation as a destination for silo art enthusiasts and delivering long-term tourism benefits to the Riverland.

The silo is privately owned, with the owner supportive and actively involved in progressing the project.
