Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has joined the Coorong District Council to celebrate the completion of irrigation upgrades at Tailem Bend Golf Club.

The $67,000 project has upgraded the irrigation at the Golf Club to a fully automated watering system allowing for increased water efficiency and reducing the time demands of the club’s dedicated volunteers.

“The Tailem Bend Golf Club is beautiful course, built and maintained predominately by its dedicated volunteers. It’s a credit to these volunteers that they are providing such a fantastic course, not only for members but attracts many outside players and tourists,” Mr Pasin said.

The project was assisted with $10,000 in funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, a former Coalition Government initiative to help Councils support local communities.

Mr Pasin said the LRCI program was unique in that it responds to expressed local needs rather than being invested via top-down determined priorities and strategies.

“I’m incredibly proud of the support provided to Local Government through the LRCI Program because it’s projects like this that ensure our productive and vibrant region remains strong, resilient and prosperous in the long term,” Mr Pasin said.

The $3.25 billion Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program supports Local Government around Australia to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects, creating jobs and long-lasting benefits for communities.

The Coorong District Council community is benefitting from over $4 million across four rounds of the program which has funded a number of projects to improve local roads, footpaths and sporting and community infrastructure.

“It’s all part of ensuring that local communities remain a great place to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Pasin said.

“It’s incredibly dissapointing that the Albanese Labor Government has decided to discontinue the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. It means less funding for local councils for much needed local road repairs and to maintain community facilities,” Mr Pasin said.
