From Canberra to Barker – Tony Pasin MP brings a piece of Parliament
House Home

Tony Pasin MP has welcomed the Australian Parliament House (APH) Flag Roadshow to Barker.

Under this program, the iconic flag that usually flies above Parliament House in Canberra is
travelling around Australia to visit schools.

Today, Tony Pasin MP visited Tailem Bend Primary School to give local students the rare
opportunity to see the iconic flag up close and even touch it.

Mr Pasin said ‘I’m proud to bring a piece of parliament to the students of Barker to help them
learn about Australian democracy.

‘This program helps students understand the significance of the Australian flag without needing
to travel to Canberra.’

‘The Australian flag is a powerful reminder of who we are as a nation and the values we share.’
‘Bringing it to Barker gives students a chance to connect with this important symbol while
learning about our democracy and the role they can play in its future.’

‘I hope this visit inspires pride for the young people involved to carry forward.’

Over 100 delighted Tailem Bend Primary School students joined Mr Pasin to unfurl the larger than-life flag which measures 12.8 m x 6.4 m – about the same as a double decker bus.
‘Having the Australian Parliament House flag visit our school was an unforgettable experience
for our students and staff. Not only did they get to see and handle a remarkable piece of our
nation’s history, but they also had the chance to learn about the values it represents. It’s
moments like these that spark curiosity, pride, and a deeper understanding of our role as active
citizens’ said Tailem Bend Primary School Principal, Travis Schenke.

The APH Flag Roadshow is an initiative of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the
Honourable Milton Dick MP. It aims to promote the significance of the Australian National Flag
as a symbol of Australian Democracy.
