Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed the funding announcement to upgrade the facilities at Jervois Netball Club.
The $500,000 project will replace the existing changeroom amenities, umpires’ room, canteen and storage area as well as create a large undercover training area which will double as a large change facility area.
Mr Pasin said the Federal Government grant that will enable the project progress is fantastic news for the Murraylands.
“I’m passionate about working with the community to help deliver local infrastructure, particularly sporting facilities because of the vitally important role grassroots sport plays in regional communities,” Mr Pasin said.
“I threw my full support behind local Play Our Way applications in Barker because it is imperative that facilities are functional and fit for purpose, particularly for projects that reduce barriers to participation in sport for women and girls.”
“For too long, too many female club members have had to contend with sub-standard infrastructure and facilities, particularly in the regions. We desperately need to address this inequality because strong and inclusive grassroots sporting clubs help strengthen regional communities.”
“I’m looking forward to funding being received to get work at the Club underway as quickly as possible,” Mr Pasin said.
Michelle Afford of the Jervois Bluds said they were incredibly excited.
“We are overwhelmed to be successful with the Play Our Way grant submission: it culminates years of hard work, persistence, perseverance and many, many hours contributed by volunteers to final make our dream a reality. Our clubrooms project will provide our players, members, support personnel and spectators of not only the Jervois Bluds Netball Club, but also the Jervois Tennis Club and female football & cricket players; with facilities which meet the needs of women and girls to be actively involved in sport and recreation. It will also provide visiting clubs and teams suitable facilities to support their participation,” said Ms Afford.
“We appreciate the support Tony Pasin gave to our submission; visiting on a game day to ask about our project, volunteering for our netball canteen and football BBQ shed; and providing publicity opportunity to support our application, gaining wider exposure and support,” Ms Afford said.
“We can’t wait to see things start and are super excited for our new clubrooms to finally happen!”
