In a further insult to Limestone Coast cancer patients, the South Australian Labor Government is spending $1.9 million of tax-payer money on an advertising campaign of self-promotion while the Health Minister continues to deny regional residents access to radiation treatment close to home.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said it was yet another kick in the guts for the Limestone Coast community that has been told that the health and wellbeing of cancer patients requiring radiation treatment is not worthy of a relatively modest $1.5 million per annum from the State’s Health Budget.

“A Limestone Coast resident opening the Sunday paper to see a double page spread telling us how great the State Government Health system is under Labor could be forgiven for feeling a little insulted,” Mr Pasin said.

“Spending $1.9 million of taxpayers money in an attempt to convince us that the Labor Government is spending tax revenue well is something of satire.

“Labor needs to start listening instead of telling taxpayers about what public health services are needed. Listening to the 20,000 Limestone Coast residents who want radiation treatment made available locally would be a good place to start followed closely by spending the health budget on delivering health services instead of advertising,” Mr Pasin said.

“Paying to communicate to constituents is one thing but this is simply $2 million worth of hypocrisy and insult. South Australian’s deserve better,” Mr Pasin said.
