MOUNT GAMBIER LEFT BEHIND UNDER LABOR

With South Australia receiving just three per cent of funding under the latest round of Growing Regions program, the Mount Gambier and Districts Saleyards Transformation Project will be a major point of difference in this year’s Federal election for the Limestone Coast.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP announced last year that an elected Coalition Government would provide the $7.5 million necessary to see the project proceed, while an application to the current Federal Government has been rejected by Labor for a third time.

“In 2022 Anthony Albanese promised no one would be left behind under an Albanese Labor Government, yet round 2 of Labor’s flagship regional funding stream, Growing Regions, has left SA out in the cold. We deserve more than 3 per cent of the $392 million,” Mr Pasin said.

“The Mount Gambier and Districts Saleyards Transformation Project has the potential to boost economic activity in the Limestone Coast and support our livestock industry at a time that the Albanese Labor Government is making life for our farmers harder and harder.”

“The importance of this project has been shamefully disregarded by the Albanese Labor Government yet again.”

“It’s blatantly obvious that Labor is more interested in playing politics and prioritising states and seats the Prime Minister is desperate to hold or win in the upcoming election,” Mr Pasin said.

“If South Australia didn’t get our fair share of Growing Regions Round 2, and the Mount Gambier and Districts Saleyards project now is contingent on the Coalition forming Government in this year’s election to see it progress,”

“Under Labor we’ve seen a definitive policy shift away from Agriculture to the detriment of our regional communities and against the national interest. Labor consistently fails to appreciate the enormous contribution our farmers make to local communities, our national economy and the global food task.

“The rejection of critical funding for the Mount Gambier and Districts Saleyards is further confirmation of this and a real kick in the guts to the Mount Gambier and broader Limestone Coast community.”

“In stark contrast, an elected Coalition Government will lean in and back our Aussie farmers and support the Mount Gambier and Districts Saleyards Transformation Project with a funding commitment of $7.5 million for the benefit of our community and the wider agricultural industry.”

“Only a Coalition Government will provide the funding needed to get the Mount Gambier and Districts Saleyards Transformation Project moving,” Mr Pasin said.
